Fresno TMS Frequently Asked Questions provides a wide range of answers to the top questions about TMS treatments.
I am interested in getting treatment. How do I make an appointment?
Call the office at 559-433-1867 and speak to one of our TMS coordinators.

They will ask some initial questions, confirm your insurance coverage, and call back to schedule you for an evaluation with Dr. Castillo-Armas. This may take anywhere from 1-2 weeks.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, we accept most insurances, including Medicare. We do not accept Medi-Cal. However, self payment is always an option.

You will be asked to send a copy of your insurance card(s) and Driver License/ID to jenk@depressionfresno.com.

TMS Coordinators will confirm your coverage before scheduling any appointments.
Your office is named Central CA TMS. Do you offer any other services besides TMS?
Yes. Our main service is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy, but we do see patients for medication management and Intranasal Ketamine.
As a healthcare provider, I have a few patients interested in TMS? How do I refer a patient for treatment?
Please call the office at 559-433-1867 and speak to one of our TMS coordinators. They will provide you with a referral form which can be faxed to 559-433-9715.

I am interested in TMS, but not sure if it is right for me?
Each patient’s situation is unique and will need to be evaluated by Dr. Castillo Armas for his best recommendation.

You may benefit from TMS if:

You are 18+ years old.
You have a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or Migraines.
Traditional medications to treat depression haven’t worked. Individuals have generally failed 2-4 medication trials before starting TMS.
You’re not satisfied with the results you get from your medication(s).
You cannot tolerate the side effects of your medication(s).
You have an illness that limits your ability to take medications for depression.
Your depression and anxiety symptoms interfere with your daily life.

You may not be a candidate if you have:

implanted metallic devices, plates, bullet fragments near the head/neck area
implanted medical devices such as a pacemaker history of epilepsy/seizure disorder head injury other serious neurological injury

How long is TMS Therapy?
Initial evaluation with Dr. Castillo Armas will be 1 hour.

Depending on insurance, you will approved for 30-36 sessions.

Plan to be in the office everyday, Monday - Friday, for approximately 6-8 weeks.

Each session lasts only 3 min, so ideally you will spend a maximum of 15 min in the office.
Is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation the same as ECT also known as “shock” therapy?
No. TMS is a safe, non-invasive procedure. Please refer to our homepage for more detailed information.
