A person with depression may recurrently experience thoughts related to death, such as: “I would like to end my life”, “it would be better to be dead”, “I would like to disappear and cease to exist”, among others. Thoughts can present themselves in an intrusive way, with specific planning, leading to suicidal attempts and ultimately suicide. When the person is depressed, they may come to see suicide as a permanent “solution” to a temporary problem, to escape emotional pain and the inability to communicate their despair and feeling of emptiness. It is important to talk about the subject and if suicidal ideation is identified, ask for the corresponding help.
